Bahria Town increases its offers for Karachi Super Highway Project and SC Verdict

Property News

Bahria Town Karachi has upped its offer to Rs.450Bn from Rs.440bn for the 16,896 acre of lands it occupies in the Malir District of Karachi although the final decision is reserved by Supreme Court to be announced on 21st March 2019.  Bahria Town Lawyer, Mr. Ali Zafar informed the payment details that Rs.2.25billion will be paid every month for the next 5 years with Rs.20Bn payable as down payment and 30% of installments and Danzoo, Cine Gold Cinema and Parks are offered as collateral of the agreement.

In return for such a generous offer, Bahria Town has demanded the SC to waive off all legal, civil and criminal activities and on-going investigations to cease for all times to come. BTK has requested that any investigations by NAB, FIA, FBR to stop against the management, shareholders, and board of directors of Bahria Town Private Limited.

The council also pleaded to the court to withdraw the cases being pursued by the National Accountability Bureau against Bahria Town and sought an exemption of taxes and fees for transfer of land. At this, Justice Azmat Saeed remarked that the court will not be able to suspend the law for the transfer of land, making it clear to the builder's counsel that his client will have to pay the due taxes and government fees.

On May 4, 2018, the court ruled that the Malir Development Authority illegally granted land to Bahria Town which was exclusively allotted for building a housing scheme by Sindh Government. This illegal land swapping with Bahria Town was sabotage of legal rights so BTK was refrained from selling plots in the housing scheme.

Currently, Bahria Town is in possession of 16,896 acres of land in Malir district, whereas it has surrendered 7,675 acres to the MDA. Supreme Court is most likely to announce its verdict regarding the case updates on 21st March 2019.
