CJP orders to unfreeze Bahria Town Accounts and Latest Updates

Property News

The Supreme Court (SC) ordered on Friday to unfreeze all accounts of Bahria Town and Malir Development Authority’s (MDA).

The SC bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar, took up the appeal of Bahria Town counsel Aitzaz Ahsan. The counsel told the bench that due to the accounts being frozen, employees were not getting their salaries and work had also stopped.

The chief justice remarked that they had ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to only ‘monitor’ the accounts and not to cease the accounts at all. The CJP then ordered all accounts of Bahria Town and MDA to be unfrozen

Justice Saqib also inquired as to why the name of Bahria Town had not been changed in the given deadline of six months. The CJP said that the deadline has ended and yet the name was still being used.

“I so wish that I change Bahria Town’s name right now,” Justice Nisar replied.

In 2015, a session’s court in Rawalpindi had barred property tycoon Malik Riaz from using the name “Bahria” for his housing society. In 2018, the same court had rejected his appeal seeking the brand name.
