Refresh your Home for the Coming Winters

Tips & Advice

Putting on a scarf around a home won’t protect against winter chill, being smart will”

With autumn upon us and the cooler weather fast-approaching, it's time to bring out the winter woollies and start looking forward to cozy nights in. To make your home as warm and inviting as possible and ward off those winter blues, here are 10 simple tasks to do now. With the fast approaching winters we need to insulate our homes and clean it out before the inclement winters bound us indoors and limit our physical activity. Some of the simple tasks we need to do are the following,

Cool Weather window coverings

Heavy draperies, insulated curtains and roller blinds are the top things to buy before winters come calling. They are the winter investment to trap the heat in and keep the chill outside. Remove all your sheer draperies and store them away for the next summers. Window insulation kits can also be installed in case you really are serious about keeping your delicate frilly curtains on.

Introduce Layers of Texture

The first thing that comes to mind when you think of frosty winters is thick covers, heavy quilts, ample of cushions, and snuggling underneath layers of fat & soft comforter. So that is exactly the step to take. Think plush velvet, chunky knitted throws and warming hints of timber or brass if you're planning on redecorating this winter. A pair of extra pillows or warm sheets on the bed wouldn’t hurt at all.

Change your Color Palette

Say no to a summery décor and say Hello to warm and rich hues like terracotta, green olive, rosy pink and dark grey tones. You can paint the walls a winter-appealing color or spread a wallpaper that is entirely up to you.

Do you have a heater or a Carpet runner?

Last winters in Pakistan were pretty harsh and prolonged, so all those people who think they might not need to buy a heater we suggest you to think again! The size of the heater depends on the space you want to keep warm. Electric Heaters are cheap and portable option for small houses whereas gas heaters are a good choice for a large house and longer time period.

Cover up your hard floors with Persian rugs and thick carpets or hallway runners. We all hate to freeze up our feet’s running to the fridge to get a glass of water isn’t that so? If you have tiles, hardwood or concrete floors, rugs are an easy and effective way to cozy-up your home in winter. Your toes will thank you for it.

Stock up on firewood for your Fire place!

If you're lucky enough to have a fireplace, stocking up now on firewood and keeping it dry, will save you the panic if winter arrives earlier than expected.

Inspect all windows and doors for leaks.

In order to prevent heat loss, make sure your windows and doors are properly sealed. Check the weather-stripping around windows and door frames, and replace where necessary. Also check for drafts and caulk both inside and out where necessary, to keep the heat in and the cold out.

Trim your bushes and trees.

Make sure any overgrown bushes or trees are trimmed back away from your house and electrical wires. This will help decrease your risk of property damage and power problems.
