How often should you Paint your House and When Should you do it

Tips & Advice

Renovating a home can be equally exciting as well as a dreadful task that home owners mostly procrastinate to do. But renovating is a prime activity as it transforms the whole dressing and aura of a home from lackluster walls to a pristine place. Home Painting is the first thing we ought to do when it comes to renovating a home because walls get the most hyped part of a house and also most talked about by visitors. The interior doesn’t need regular painting like the exterior that needs more frequent repair due to the weather conditions. Painting your house is the least expensive thing you can do that transforms your space but before we do that lets educate the general masses about common home painting mistakes that can leave a bad image of the house.

Hallways and Corridors

The walls here in hallways and corridors see a lot of wear and tear. They will have scuff marks, sticky finger marks and possibly dents and cracks below the surface that ruins the aesthetics of your house. If the paint that was used was a high quality washable paint, these walls can be washed occasionally. The hallways get painted more often than most other areas of a house that is likely around every 2-3 years.

Bedrooms

Bedroom walls do not see a lot of activity as the lounge and children bedroom walls do, so for the latter use a top quality paint with high sheen to remove the doodling and abstract mark lines from the walls.  You can also use a section of the wall chalkboard paint. This will encourage the toddlers to express their creativity on a predefined wall surface and hopefully leave the other walls alone. The reality is, where kids spend a lot of time, wall paint does not last very long. Kid’s rooms get painted more often than other bedrooms, maybe every 2-3 years.

Living and Dining Room

Paint in living and dining rooms last longer because formal dining events take place there so the walls do not endure a lot of damage. But it is imperative that high quality paint and decoration is used in these areas to showcase the luxurious décor of a home. Pantone Ultra-violet, Mint, sorbet pinks, dewy yellow and ivory cream/grey shades are preferred for dining room paints as they exude a sense of outlandishness and cleanliness.

Kitchen & Bathrooms

The kitchen and bathrooms have far more damage on the walls than the living or dining rooms, so it is advisable to freshen up these walls more often. These are the busiest rooms, which are highly potential to ruin the walls. Especially in kitchen, you should have a paint that can be washed regularly. Always prefer a pearl or satin finish paint for your kitchen. It becomes easy to scrub and maintain them.

In bathrooms, the main culprit is humid and moisture. You need to understand why that paint is peeling off the walls in order to keep them healthy. Home Décor and Paint Companies recommends paints to be used for humid areas should all be water based as they are actually longer lasting. The paint job in these rooms does not last as long and needs to be done every 3-4 years. Good ventilation will let some of the humidity escape and extend the time between paintings.

Smart Reminders When to Paint

Painting is an activity done best at a certain time or weather conditions. Let be make some pointers for you over it,

  • Avoid Home  Painting in  Humid Weather
  • Prepare for Holidays or special Occasions ( Eid, Parties etc.,)
  • Do not Paint in Extreme temperatures as they tend to wash off/soggy/Sticky
  • Get an Early Start, i.e. do the paint job early morning so that by the day’s end several paint layers and coatings are finished
  • Repaint when you plan to resale your home.

A sense of aesthetics and creative designing is a step ahead and much needed before we get into the technical stuff of when, where and how to paint. Because the colors, shades, quality and paint brand we decide to apply is much more essential than the routinely home painting activity.
