How to Prep your Terrace and Outdoor for winters

Home Decoration

Terrace is the most exciting & elevated part of a home that requires a lot of love & attention. It’s time to spruce up your patio space for fall use. Yes, we know what you’re wondering: “Will I actually use my backyard now that cooler temps have hit?” To that we say, “Of course you will!”

Light it up

“It gets darker earlier so set up some battery-operated lanterns, solar lanterns or LED candles. You can now get LED candles with a timer so they come on at the same time every day, and you can adjust the timer as the days get shorter. If you want to undertake a larger renovation project, plan for illuminating the backyard space with lights that are built in to a pillar or up on the fence, that can be turned on with the flick of a switch.”

Give yourself shelter

“One way to extend your backyard into fall is to install some interlocking or patio stones on top of a grassy area to create a little space for your chairs to sit on. Then, if you add a gazebo overtop of it, it’s a great way to stay outside and keep warm. You can even zip the sides of some of them up. It’s like a really nice backyard tent. You can also get heat lamps that hang inside your gazebo to keep you nice and warm.

Get painting

“Landscaping and fence painting/staining are popular projects to undertake in fall. The summer is often so busy that we don’t get around to doing these things. The end of the summer is also a good time to do exterior painting or painting/refinishing of furniture. If your backyard is no longer looking inviting, make sure you give that weathered furniture a new coat of paint or assess whether it’s time to replace the furniture altogether.

Get packing

“If you can store your furniture in an outdoor shed, it will be helpful so you won’t have to take up storage space indoors – it’s also much more convenient and accessible. The goal is to keep your furniture/gear from getting wet or exposing it to too much frost.”
